Port Manatee Speaker – Malcolm Edwards
Thursday, August 29th @ 1:30pm in the Town Center. Port Manatee is a county-owned deepwater seaport located in the eastern Gulf of Mexico at the entrance to Tampa Bay in northern Manatee County, Florida. It is one of Florida's largest deepwater seaports and also regarded as the closest U.S. deepwater seaport to the Panama Canal.
Malcolm Edwards serves as part of the Trade Development team, where he handles Port Manatee’s sales in the Tampa Bay region and Southeastern US. He manages Port Manatee’s Foreign-Trade Zone No. 169 program, which is used to encourage activity and value-added operations at U.S. facilities in competition with foreign alternatives.
Come and join Mr. Edwards as he will give you an overview of the port, speak about port facts and figures, as well as recent and future developments.

Sarasota Classic Car Museum
Monday, September 9th @ 10am. The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is recognized as the second oldest continuously operating antique car museum in the Nation! As you stroll through the museum, travel back in time and into the future of man’s greatest invention, the automobile! Antique, exotic, European and one-of-a-kind classics are featured in our rotating exhibits throughout the museum. This is a one-hour guided tour, please wear comfortable shoes!

Safety Talk with Deputy Karen Hicks from the Sarasota Sherriff’s Office:
Monday, October 14th @ 1:30pm in the Town Center. Come learn a few safety tips that you can apply in your everyday life. Deputy Karen will talk on several topics including: distraction burglary, phone scams, and how to refer scams to the Federal Trade Commission where they can locate all the updates on scams and robo calls. She is also going to talk about ID theft and skimmers. Handouts will be provided and a giveaway. You don’t want to miss this!!!

Mother Pearl Sea Glass:
Monday, October 21st @ 1:30pm – 3:30pm in the Town Center. Come for some creative fun and go home with a matching set of Mother-of-pearl (MOP) jewelry pieces. A set consists of one pendant, one bracelet and a pair of earrings. You may select between an open back cuff or a link bracelet, and between French, stud or clip-on earrings. The MOP shell comes in natural and dyed green and turquoise chips and pieces. All shell pieces, tools and materials are provided.

ABC News Station Tour:
Thursday, October 24th @ 12:30pm. Ever wonder what it takes to operate a News Station? Here’s your opportunity to get a first-hand experience. Come join this one-hour tour of the ABC News Station. The tour will begin at the Sales and Marketing department then on to the News Room with a short talk about Technical Operations. Afterward, you will be taken to the Digital Media Room where you will learn how they gather news and the function of Field Journalists and Master Control. The tour will finish in the studio where you will watch the noon news, weather, and get to meet the Anchors and Meteorologist.

Historic Venice Train Tour:
Monday, November 4th @ 3:30pm (tour starts promptly at this time). The train depot, owned by Sarasota County, is the only surviving passenger station in the County. It was built in 1927 and renovated in 2002-2003, was central to the founding and development of Venice, Florida. Since November 12, 2003, a cadre of trained docents from the Venice Area Historical Society (VAHS) has provided tours of the Depot building and campus to visitors from around the world. This one-hour tour starts in the waiting room were on display are informative panels and exhibits developed by VAHS, illustrating both Venice history and Depot history. It is an interesting and entertaining story highlighting the five important themes of this city. The presence of VAHS at the Depot is a major effort in preserving and celebrating the Depot’s history and its historically significant architecture. Complimentary.
